Summer League 2012

Summer 2012 league will happen on Thursdays starting on May 17th, going through August 9th. Start time each week is at 6:30pm. The playoff tournament and party are on Saturday, August 11th, and take most of the day.

In 2011 we had 12 teams with 18 players each. There is talk of expanding the number of teams if we get enough signups (tell your friends!) Format is best of three games. All games are played even if one team wins the first two. Signup closes on May 8th.

The league fee is $75 if you are over 21 years of age, $65 if you are under 21. You will get a shirt (men’s size), a disc, 12+ games of Ultimate on great fields, and a couple of parties/cookouts.

Signup closed May 8th and the league was full at 12 teams of 18. Draft is on May 14th at 7:00 PM at Pat Flynn’s pub. Payment received after the draft, INCLUDING FIRST DATE OF FIRST GAME, will incur a $10 late fee. Payment will be accepted at the draft without incurring a late fee. Draft location and date TBD.

NOTE: if you want to try to be on the same team as someone, you must contact the commissioner Steve Hurst (hurstaaa@yahoo.com) and get his approval. Since all games are in the same place and at the same time, the league encourages play with new people. The “draft with” option is only for new players and people with child care issues.

In the signup there is a place for you to write a paragraph about your experience level, pertinent physical attributes, expectations, and/or any scheduling limitations you may have. The commissioner would write this about himself as an example:

“Very experienced player who is over the hill and out of shape. Can help with throws, but will be a liability on D. Main focus is to have fun, but the competitive spirit is still there. Should make most games.”

A waiver will be provided on the first night of the league for you to sign.

There is an option to pay with a check made out to the IUA and mailed to Steve Hurst at 8127 Rucker Road, Indianapolis, IN

Summer 2011 league happened on Thursdays starting on May 19th and went through August 11th. Start time each week was at 6:30pm. The playoff tournament and party were on Saturday, August 13th.

In 2010 we had 12 teams with 18 players each. There is talk of expanding the number of teams if we get enough signups (tell your friends!) Format is best of three games. All games are played even if one team wins the first two. Signup closes on May 15th.

The league fee is $75 if you are over 21 years of age, $65 if you are under 21. You will get a shirt, a disc, 12+ games of Ultimate, and a couple of parties/cookouts. Late fee is $10, so don’t delay on signing up. A waiver will be provided on the first night of the league for you to sign.

Registration for Indianapolis Ultimate Winter League 2011 closed in early January. Eight captains sat down and drafted eight teams together, then each randomly got one of the teams.

We played on Thursday nights at The SportZone, located near 71st and Georgetown. The league started January 6th, and went for ten weeks. Seven weeks are for the regular season, with the tournament playing out over the last three weeks.

League dues were $80, which included a pass to get into The SportZone for free on Thursday nights.

For rosters and results, check out the league manager. The eventual winner was The Price Is Right, who did not lose a single game or match throughout the season!

Woody wrote up his version of the semi-final and final games, repeated here.

Semifinal games

The Price is Right advance against Love Connection, and rest in the shade for a long, long time. Lewis vs. Meat slowly resolves peacefully, anticipating a repeat at States.

Legends of the Hidden Temple advance against a flurry of hucks and fast, fast receivers from the American Gladiators, who played savage for the last half due to the remaining two substitutes leaving to attend a wedding. Maggie cuts deep hard against some really old dude wearing long sleeves and hillbilly headgear for a KILLER deep throw from the Gladiators’ tallest warrior anyhow, much to the delight of the increasingly well fed crowd, to keep things close. Almost TOO close for this Red Jag.

Final game

Actual retail PRICE of the finals : 17(?!?) – 6. Bob Barker’s Boys play perfect (36 and OH NO, NOT AGAIN) for a hovering swarm of Dragonflys, and a plastic canopy and umbrella city shading the crowd gone wild chanting “Broad-well”, “Broad-well”, “Broad-well” after two, count them, TWO, jumps and one hand catches in the Western end zone of Field Six to keep things as close as possible to the Cleveland Rocking Juggernaut Steamrollers wearing deep blue.

Thank you everyone, for ALL of your help with yet another awesome season and conclusion to the city league, and a special thank you to “Steve, the red baron of 2010.”

Woody (Once again, a Sunburned Summer League Semifinalist … .)

Remember who was on that team for the draft next year. :)

Overview

Summer 2010 league was on Thursdays starting on May 20 and going through August 5, with the tourney and party on August 7. The party was also at Eagle’s Crest. Start time each week was at 6:30pm. In 2009 we had 12 teams with about fifteen players apiece. In 2010 the number of teams stayed the same, but the number of players increased to eighteen. There is talk of expanding the number of teams if we can get more women playing. There was an off week on July 1 due to 4th of July, with open play and likely a cookout that week. Format was best of three games. The first two games to nine, and the third game to seven. All games are played even if one team wins the first two. Signup closed on May 15th, with 216 people, a new league record!
